Educational Initiative

Scientists of this Centre are guiding several M.Sc. and Ph.D. students of IARI in their research. A new Discipline of ‘Simulation and Informatics’ with four PG courses has been started at the Unit from academic session 2005-06. This will serve as a minor discipline for M.Sc. and Ph.D. students of IARI. Of this one course “Foundation Course on Informatics’ is a compulsory course for all M.Sc. and Ph.D. students of IARI.

The Centre provides facilities for attachment training for the final year students of M.Sc. Bioinformatics for completing their short-term projects. This attachement program is sponsored by Department of Biotechnology (GOI) Many students from outside universities and institutes avail this opportunity. Most of the traineeship students of the centre got placement in bioinformatics firms and R&D institutions after completing their tenure at the Centre. One of our traninee got admission in Ph.D through commonwealth fellowship and one to IIT Delhi.

Results Validation

Initiatives to validate the outcome of bioinformatics resources:
Work has been initiated for application and validation of various bioinformatics resources for nucleotide and protein sequence alignment, gene prediction, genetic markers establishment and protein structure prediction and modeling.

Collaborative Work/Initiative

Our centre has collaboration with NRCPB (National Research Centre on Plant Biotechnology) and several BTISnet centers under DBT programme.
